Action for Children at Central

actionforchildrenAction for Children, a charity which was formally known as National Children’s Homes, is wholly supported by the Methodist Church. It was originally founded in 1869 and has continued ever since to support and speak out for the most vulnerable and neglected children and young people in the UK and in southern Africa, the Caribbean and Central America. It has changed with changing times but continues to work with other services in response to the needs of children, young people and their families in the local communities.

At Launceston we try to support this worthwhile charity every year by raising money through various efforts and through personal giving. Each year we hold coffee mornings and bring and buy stalls and these are supported by all the chapels in our circuit. On the ‘Action for Children Sunday’ in July a small committee organize a two course lunch for approximately 100 people in the Church Hall. This is usually prepared by the committee with many of the country churches providing scrumptious desserts. With people giving generously to a retiring collection on the same day we generally manage to raise in the region of £1,000 each year.

Action for Children's services

Action for Children believe all children and young people have unique potential and that they should have the support and opportunities they need to reach it. Action for Children helps over 50,000 children and young people through 480 projects across the UK promoting social justice by lobbying and campaigning for change.

Today, Action for Children is the leading UK provider of family and community centres, children's services in rural areas, services for disabled children and their families, and services for young people leaving care. We provide services in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and we also support work in Southern Africa, the Caribbean and Central America.
